Andy began flying at the age of 13, gained his Private Pilot’s Licence at 17 and joined the RAF at 18. During his 20 year service he mainly flew the Jaguar, gaining over 3500 hours on type and displaying the aircraft for 3 years from 1994-97.

In 1998, he was selected for the Red Arrows, where he served for 3 years, finishing his tour as Red 6 – leader of the Synchro Pair. He was awarded the MBE by Her Majesty the Queen in 1998 for military service.

After leaving the RAF in 2000, Andy continued display flying in aircraft as diverse as the Hawker Hunter, Folland Gnat and Extra 300. He had flown in excess of 520 public displays.

His day job is an airline Captain flying the Airbus A320 series, but he is an accomplished photographer, an expert witness specialising in aviation accidents and enjoys playing the guitar.
