Betty Bromage Does It Again: 97-Year-Old Guinness World Record Holder Takes to the Skies for Her Sixth Wing Walk
Some people slow down as they get older. Betty Bromage simply climbs onto the wing of our aircraft.
This week we had the absolute privilege of welcoming Betty back to AeroSuperBatics as she completed her sixth wing walk, extending her own Guinness World Record as the world’s oldest female wing walker at the remarkable age of 97.
Watching Betty take to the skies over RFC Rendcomb Airfield wasn’t just another wing walk. It was a celebration of resilience, courage and the belief that adventure doesn’t come with an age limit.
A Record-Breaking Flight
With family, friends, supporters and media watching from the ground, Betty climbed aboard our Boeing Stearman before taking her place on the wing.
What followed was a spectacular display of aerobatics.
At 3,000 feet, travelling at speeds of up to 150mph, Betty experienced thrilling manoeuvres including a loop and a barrel roll, all with her trademark smile and determination.
By completing the flight, she officially extended the Guinness World Record she first set in 2022, proving once again that extraordinary achievements aren’t defined by age.
Flying for a Cause Close to Her Heart
For Betty, this challenge was about much more than breaking records.
She chose to dedicate her latest wing walk to raising funds for Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity, supporting the stroke unit at Cheltenham General Hospital.
After suffering a stroke in 2025, Betty experienced first-hand the outstanding care provided by the hospital team. Despite living with reduced mobility and impaired eyesight, she was determined to give something back in the most Betty way imaginable, by climbing onto the wing of an aeroplane.
After landing, Betty said:
“I’m thrilled to have completed another wing walk. The support I’ve received has been incredible, and I’m proud to be raising money for the wonderful team at Cheltenham General Hospital who looked after me so well. If my story encourages even one person to keep challenging themselves and making the most of life, then it’s been worth every minute.”
It’s a message that perfectly captures the spirit we’ve come to know over the years.
An Inspiration to Everyone She Meets
Our Lead Display Pilot, David Barrell, had the honour of flying Betty on her latest record-breaking adventure.
Reflecting on the day, David said:
“Betty is a true inspiration. Her determination, enthusiasm and adventurous spirit prove that age is no barrier to pursuing extraordinary experiences. It has been an absolute privilege to welcome her back and seeing her once again take to the skies is something our entire team is honoured to be part of.”
